As stated on the homepage, Nightmare Press publishes several genres. Though Anubis Press began as paranormal nonfiction, and Nightmare Press began as horror, plans to expand always existed. We also opened Wild West Press and Poet Tree Grove, and there were several other imprints planned. Now, under the Nightmare Press banner, we publish a multitude of literary categories.

HORROR: Supernatural horror is the favorite, but we also accept psychological horror. We don’t mind gore but there has to be a story and it has to have a reason. We don’t publish extreme horror or splatterpunk.

FANTASY: Preferably high fantasy, epic fantasy, and sword and sorcery. Dark fantasy is always welcome. We’re not opposed to urban and low fantasy. Whether you consider Magical Realism fantasy or literary fiction, we accept that too.

SCIENCE FICTION: In this category, we like hard sci-fi and space operas. Cyberpunk and technothrillers, too.

CRIME FICTION: Mafia, street lit, hardboiled, mystery, thriller, suspense, and noir mostly. Police procedurals, political thrillers, and courtroom dramas aren’t likely to catch our attention.

PULP: We love the fast-paced, larger-than-life, escapist entertainment of the old pulp novels. The specific genre(s) employed does/do not matter; it can be science fiction, fantasy, crime, horror, or adventure. Bring on the pulp!

SURREALIST LIT: We’re lumping all categories of unconventional literature under this genre: absurdism, nonsense literature, dada, slipstream, new wave fabulism, bizarro, and Noveau Roman (but in the English language). We like experimental. If you have something so unusual you think no publisher would ever accept it, we’re the publisher to whom you should submit it.

ADVENTURES: Nautical fiction, lost world, swashbuckler, Picaresque novels, men’s adventures, subterranean fiction, outdoor lit, spy novels, war novels, and Robinsonade are all of great interest to us. We really want to build this section of our library.

OCCULT AND PARANORMAL FICTION: Any stories involving ghosts, demons, or other supernatural forces in everyday life, but don’t seem like horror.

WESTERNS: We are interested in traditional westerns. The grittier, the better.

WEIRD WEST: We love tales which weave horror, fantasy, and science fiction into the old west and wild west.

ROMANCE: Our preferred type of romance novels are dark romance, romantasy, epic, and weird romance. Tame or steamy doesn’t matter.

EROTICA: We do not shy away from the salacious, lascivious, or lewd. Just make sure there’s a story built around all the naughty behavior.

LITERARY FICTION: We are big fans of eschewing the genre-fiction formula for character studies, language, style, and themes. If you’re pushing boundaries, subverting traditions, and butting heads with the establishment, this all sounds good to us. However, we love the classics too.

POETRY: They say poetry doesn’t sell, but we don’t care. We publish it anyway. Whether it’s epic, free verse, rhyming, haiku, beat, or any other style, if you have something good, send it our way.

PARANORMAL NONFICTION: If you have written a book about haunted locations, ghosts, aliens, cryptids, urban legends, or something akin to these, we are interested in taking a look at it. If you have written a book about your own experiences, we are interested in that too.
