If you are interested in publishing with Nightmare Press, make sure you have looked over the genres we accept and your work fits.
Please follow the guidelines. Not doing so will result in automatic rejection.
Send your submissions to nightmarepress@yahoo.com (business email coming soon). In the subject line of the email, include your name, title of the work, genre, and word count.
In the body of the email, write a brief description of the work. One we could use as the description on the back cover if we were to accept.
Attach the full manuscript as a Word document.
Do not paste the manuscript to the body of the email. We won’t even look at the submission if you do.
If you have a short story collection, do not send the stories separately. Send them in one manuscript. If they are separate, we will reject automatically.
We don’t care if you submit to other presses simultaneously. Just let us know if the work gets accepted elsewhere, as a professional courtesy.
DECISION TIMEFRAME
Due to the high volume of submissions and work, we have a quarterly window for submission reviews. They are as follows:
FIRST QUARTER (January 1st to March 31st): Submissions sent within this window will have final decisions made by the end of the second quarter.
SECOND QUARTER (April 1st to June 30th): Submissions sent within this window will have final decisions made by the end of the third quarter.
THIRD QUARTER (July 1st to September 30th): Submissions sent within this window will have final decisions made by the end of the fourth quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER (October 1st to December 31st): Submissions sent within this window will have final decisions made by the end of the first quarter of the following year.
*NOTE: Nightmare Press receives many submissions and has a continuous line of books awaiting publication, and that line can get lengthy. The amount of time from acceptance to publication can take quite a while. We want to make authors aware of this prior to submission.
Nightmare Press is an all-inclusive publishing house. We not only welcome diversity, we seek it out as well. We are open to all races, all genders, all identities, all sexual orientations, the disabled, and the mentally ill, and we like stories that represent diversity too.
That does not mean we overlook, cast aside, or push cis-het white males to the back of the line. It only means we consider everyone equally and merit is all that matters.
What do we mean by merit? Well…
1) A good story. Something compelling or unique with solid writing and strong narrative.
2) Something that we believe has a good chance to sell. Everyone knows selling books on the indie level is a hit-and-miss game, but if we think your story has salability, we will give it a chance.
3) An established author with a decent following. We don’t chase the well-known authors like some presses. However, if you submit to us and we see you have great work ethic and a following, that strengthens your chances.
You don’t have to have a strong following and definite salability. We are very big on helping usher in new authors with their own narrative voice and singular tales to tell, so they can hone their craft and cultivate their following. So, if you have never published a book or have no following, don’t let that stop you. Everyone has to start somewhere and we love for authors to start with Nightmare Press.
At Nightmare Press, we just look for good stories we can make into great books.
